Kathmandu, January 11

Supporters of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC say they will now launch  a ‘moral struggle’ against CPN-UML Chairman and ‘prime minister-in-waiting’ KP Sharma Oli.

The supporters were apparently angry at a statement made by the former prime minister at the Tribhuvan International Airport before he left for Bangkok yesterday. An sarcastic Oli had told reporters that if Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav had any confusion about any legal affairs, he could consult KC.

The veteran orthopaedic surgeon was under trial at the Supreme Court in relation to a contempt of court filed against him.

Now, KC supporters argue that Oli tried to mock Dr KC and his struggle for reforms in Nepal’s medical education sector.

Oli’s lawyer Om Prakash Aryal says they have been closely following Oli’s recent remarks. “How could he laugh at achievements of Dr KC’s satyagraha? How could he joke about him?” he says, “Therefore, we launch a moral fight against him.”

Another aide of Dr KC, Dr Abhishek Raj Singh, said Oli was surrounded by the mafia and he needed to come out of that.
