A writ petition filed by former Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki challenging his removal from the post is unlikely to be heard before the Tihar holidays.

Karki’s petition could not be registered at the Supreme Court on Thursday. Court officials informed his lawyers that the application was still under review and could not be registered that day.

The Supreme Court generally schedules an initial hearing for the day after a petition is registered. If Karki’s petition is registered on Friday, the start of the Tihar holidays the following day means its preliminary hearing will likely take place only after the break.

Karki has approached the court claiming that the government removed him from the post of Inspector General of Police unlawfully.

The government removed Karki as police chief and appointed him as security adviser to the prime minister. However, Karki has not received the Cabinet decision letter formalising his new appointment.
