Kathmandu, June 2

Considering the widespread complaints of patients having to wait for months and even years for surgery in hospitals across the country, the Ministry of Health and Population has formed a special committee to study and address the problem. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Yadav formed a three-member committee to study the problem and present a report along with solutions and recommendations.

The committee led by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr Dipendraraman Singh includes the Head of Quality Measurement and Regulations Division, Dr Madan Kumar Upadhyay, and Senior Public Health Administrator, Dr Gunanidhi Sharma as members.

Mostly patients who come from remote and distant places have been complaining about not getting their turn for surgery, delays in treatment and negligence by hospitals. Minister Yadav said, “The committee will study how to provide services to them quickly and take immediate action to make other services more efficient.”

Accordingly, the committee will inspect federal hospitals in Kathmandu Valley in the first phase. It will also conduct a detailed study of the outpatient (OPD) services provided by the hospital. The details of patients referred elsewhere for the same services will also be collected. The committee has been given two weeks to carry out the study and submit a report with recommendations.
