Kathmandu, August 23
Police in the Bara district of southern Nepal have confiscated 40 sacks of chemical fertiliser allegedly being smuggled into Nepal from India.
Nepal has been facing a shortage of fertiliser for the past few months whereas the government has also not been able to solve the problem.
In this context, the sacks were being transported to Nepal on nine motorbikes this morning, informs Chief District Officer Rudra Prasad Pandit. The material was confiscated from four border points in Simraungadh rural municipality, according to him.
Earlier, the District Administration Office had mobilised a team after receiving complaints about the incidents that amount to smuggling.
The confiscated fertiliser will be submitted to Birgunj Customs Office, it has been learned.
