Authority directs telcos to ensure smooth services in storm-hit places

Kathmandu, April 2

The country’s telecommunications regulator has directed all telecommunications service providing companies to ensure that their services are smooth in storm-hit places of Bara and Parsa districts of southern Nepal.

Nepal Telecommunications Authority issued the directive in the wake of disruption of telephone and internet services in some places after the Sunday storm that killed nearly three dozen people.

Citing that the disruption of services affects immediate rescue and relief efforts, the Authority has also requested customers not to keep the lines engaged with unnecessary talks.

It has been estimated that around 500 telecommunications towers have been damaged in the disaster.

The Authority has called on members of the public to inform the Authority if there are problems in the connection.
