Authority: BS 2076 calendar will be available in market by February first week

Kathmandu, January 14

Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, the government authority to decide festival dates and give approval to annual calendars, says it is making sure that the publishers publish the calendars for the upcoming Bikram Samvat year and make them available by February first week.

BS 2076 will begin on April 14.

The Samiti chairperson Ram Chandra Gautam says the calendars will be published early this year owing to demands from members of the public. Stakeholders had also demanded that the Authority finalise dates and festivals at the earliest so that it would be easier to plan weddings and other family events.

Gautam says the Samiti has approved 13 traditional calendars (panchangas/patros) for the next year.

The calendars, however, will not include the list of public holidays as the government is yet to decide them, according to Gautam.

Though there was a demand to mention auspicious time for biggest festivals of Dashain and Tihar in the calendars themselves, the authority decided against that, he informs.
