At least seven killed in Gandaki landslides

At least seven persons after died after being buried by landslides following incessant rainfall in different districts of the Gandaki province since Thursday night.

Four persons have died in or near Pokhara, the provincial capital, overnight. Three persons were buried to death by a landslide at Sarankot Gothadi, Pokhara-18 of Kaski at around 2:45 am today, informs DSP Subas Hamal, the District Police Office spokesperson.

The family of Tanka Bahadur Thapa, whose house was destroyed in the landslide, had celebrated a family member’s birthday last night, hence additional people had also stayed there, according to him. However, the victims are yet to be identified.

Six persons sustained injuries and they are undergoing treatment at different hospitals of Pokhara.

In another incident of the district, 70-year-old Bhimkali Adhikari died when her house in Hemja, Pokhara-25, according to police. Three persons have sustained injuries in another similar incident in Chhorepatan Simaltunda of the city.

Meanwhile, three members of a family died when their house was buried by a landslide in Satbise, Besisahar municipality of Lamjung at around 11 last night. The victims have been identified as Deepak Tamang, his wife and a son. Three members of the same family are injured.
