Pokhara, April 1
A wheelchair accessible hiking trail has been inaugurated in Pokhara of Kaski district, Nepal’s tourism capital, on Saturday. This is claimed to be the first of its kind in the entire Asian region.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari inaugurated the 1.3-km trail in local Deurali Naudanda yesterday.
One can enjoy a panoramic view of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and other mountains from the trail.
It has been said that the trail is accessible to wheelchair users, senior citizens and those living with prosthetic limbs.
Speaking at the function, Minister Adhikari said the opening of hiking trail added a new dimension to Nepal’s tourism industry. He said the government would take initiatives to develop it as a model route and take it to the international market.
Nepal Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi said the hiking trail was a remarkable achievement in Nepal’s tourism industry.
It has been learned that the trail will be extended upto three kilometres later.
