Convicted banker Kamal Gyawali arrested from India

Kathmandu, October 5

Notorious banker Kamal Gyawali, who was on the run after being convicted of banking fraud, has been arrested from India.

Chief of the Metropolitan Crime Diivsion, SSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, says he has been taken to Nepal after the arrest.

“We have arrested him in the area near Mahendranagar of Nepal and taken him to Kathmandu,” he says, “The details will be made public later.”

The Patan High Court around two years ago had convicted Gyawali and his wife Gauri Khanal Gyawal of the fraud and sentenced them to jail for three years. The duo were also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 125 million.

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had filed a case against him on the charge of misusing the loan of Rs 125 million that he borrowed on behalf of Jumbo Prakashan from Siddhartha Development Bank.
