Pedestrians made to stand on a pavement on the charge of violating the prohibitory order imposed to control the Covid-19 outbreak in Kathmandu, on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

Kathmandu, August 20

Police on Thursday took action against 1,170 people on the charge of violating the prohibitory order imposed in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur districts of the valley.

DIG Bishwa Raj Pokharel, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office, says they were made to stand on the roadside for two hours before being released.

Likewise, 415 two-wheelers and 179 four-wheelers were also found violating the order, Pokharel says, adding, “We will investigate. If they do not give us convicting explanation, we can also go for legal action,” he warns.

District administration offices of these districts have issued the order for one week, beginning today, in their bid to control the Covid-19 outbreak.
