Nepal Telecom to launch utility payment service

Kathmandu, June 14

Nepal Telecommunications Company says it will soon launch the utility payment service so that the customers can make payments to various services through the new service.

Earlier, the central bank has already decided that telecommunication service providers can also provide utility payment services.

“We are planning to launch the utility payment service though the model is yet to be decided,” an NT official says, “The discussions have begun now and we will extensively hold discussions with other stakeholders too.”

It has been learned that the company is exploring two options: whether to establish a subsidiary company or to partner with an existing bank.

With the launch of the service, bills of drinking water, electricity, telephone and internet among others can be paid through mobile accounts. Likewise, one can also purchase movie tickets and buy various other products.
