The government has identified 100 ‘new’ tourism destinations and said it will launch a special plan in order to promote tourism activities there.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation says the places were selected on the basis of recommendations collected from local and provincial governments as well as Nepal Tourism Board.

Around 600 recommendations were made, and the Ministry selected 100 considering set criteria about their potential, according to officials.

Now, government bodies, private agencies and locals will be mobilised for their development and promotion, the Ministry plans.

It has been learned that the government identified these destinations as a step towards achieving the target of attracting 2 million foreign tourists in Visit Nepal 2020.

The government says sufficient funding will be provided to develop these places.
