Kathmandu, June 2
Minister for Industry Nabindra Raj Joshi has announced that the government will provide a grant of Rs 15 million to technology activist Mahabir Pun to assist him in establishing the National Innovation Centre.
During a press conference organised at the Ministry on Thursday, Minister Joshi announced that the grant has been mentioned in the annual budget for next fiscal year.
Just few weeks ago, the Ramon Magsaysay Award winner had put various awards and medals on an auction in a bid to collect fund for his foundation.
Meanwhile, Pun in his initial comments said he was not hopeful that the government would support him.
He wrote on Facebook few hours after the Minister’s announcement that such announcements had been made in the past as well, but none of them was implemented.
The scientist has further suspected that the decision might be a personal favour of the Minister, but not the official government decision.
He said he would speak more about the announcement in the future.
