Kathmandu, June 9
Prime Minister Balen Shah has expanded the cabinet today. Sudan Gurung was sworn in as Home Minister and Mahabir Pun as Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation. President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to both Gurung and Pun.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Speaker of the House, Chair of the National Assembly, ministers, and members of parliament.
Gurung had previously held the Home Minister portfolio as well. He had resigned amid a controversy over his property disclosure, but was reinstated after a government-formed investigation committee gave him a clean chit.
Similarly, Pun had served as Minister for Education, Science and Technology in the Sushila Karki-led government that was formed following the Gen-Z movement. He had resigned from the ministerial post ahead of the March 5 elections to contest the polls.
Sudan Gurung is a Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) member of parliament elected from Gorkha-1, while Pun is an independent MP elected from Myagdi.
