Kathmandu, May 24,
Nepal is playing their third and final Group A match against the Maldives today at the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship being held in Kathmandu.
The match will be played at the Dashrath Rangasala Covered Hall in Tripureshwor at 5:00 pm and will be broadcast live on Himalaya Sports Channel.
Nepal’s standing
Nepal have played two matches so far, winning one and losing one, and sits second in Group A with 4 points. Maldives, having lost both their previous matches, are already eliminated from the group stage. Nepal’s goal is to beat the comparatively weaker Maldives side and advance to the semifinals.
In their first match, Nepal lost to familiar rivals India in a competitive five-set battle. In their second match, they beat Kyrgyzstan in straight sets, which has strengthened their chances of reaching the semifinals.
India tops the group with 5 points, while Kyrgyzstan are third with 3. If Nepal beats Maldives in straight sets, they will reach 7 points and will not need to wait for the result of the other match in the group to confirm their semifinal berth.
Young squad
The Nepali squad, led by new captain Niruta Thagunna, features a large number of young players; six new faces have been included in the team, five of whom have already made their national team debuts.
Other matches today
Also today, Iran will face Sri Lanka at noon in Group B, followed by Kazakhstan vs Bangladesh at 2:30 PM.
All CAVA Women’s Championship matches are being broadcast live on Himalaya Sports Television.
