The second edition of the Madan Bhandari Cup International Invitational Running Shield Men’s Volleyball Tournament begins in Butwal today. The trophy was unveiled at the Butwal International Conference Centre on Monday morning ahead of the tournament.
Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sabitra Aryal, who unveiled the trophy, said the international volleyball tournament would help promote Butwal as a sports tourism destination.
According to Dhruv Acharya, president of the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari will inaugurate the tournament at 3 pm today. The tournament will run until October 3 and feature eight teams—five from Nepal and three from abroad.
From Nepal, Nepal Police Club, APF Club, Manimukunda Volleyball Club, Sabhapokhari Volleyball Club and Galkot Volleyball Club will compete. The foreign teams are Gujarat State Volleyball Association and Khaira Club Punjab from India, and the Sri Lankan Police team.
The winner will receive the running shield and Rs 700,000, while the runner-up will receive Rs 350,000. The third-place team will receive Rs 175,000, and the fourth-placed team will receive Rs 75,000, along with cups, medals and certificates.
The best player will receive Rs 15,000, while the best spiker, setter, server, blocker, defender and coach will each receive Rs 8,000 in cash. The organisers said the Player of the Match in each game will receive Rs 5,000.
Nepal Volleyball Association Vice President Bharat Shah, Madan Bhandari Sports Academy Vice President Mohan Regmi, Ganesh Thagunna and other officials were present at the trophy unveiling ceremony.
