Won’t leave govt before National Assembly polls: Law Minister

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Yagya Bahadur Thapa speaks with journalists, in Kathmandu, Monday, December 18, 2017.

Kathmandu, December 18

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Nepali Congress leader Yagya Bahadur Thapa says his party will not leave the government before the elections of National Assembly.

Thapa’s comment follows a call of the leftist alliance for the Prime Minister to quit and pave way for the new government formation following recent House of Representatives polls.

But, Thapa says the bicameral Parliament will not get full shape till the elections of upper House; hence the PM cannot quit now.

He says the call for PM’s resignation is an expression of pride and provocation.

“This government is formed to hold elections and we are yet to do the National Assembly polls,” Thapa told journalists at an interaction today, “We will leave only after conducting the polls.”

Meanwhile, Thapa stressed that the President should immediately enact the ordinance as sent by the Cabinet for National Assembly elections.
