Kathmandu, November 26

Student union leaders affiliated to the main opposition Nepali Congress and the Naya Shakti Party Nepal greeted Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari with a black flag in his home city, Pokhara, on Monay.

The demonstrators demanded that the Minister launch an independent probe into suspected irregularities in the purchase of two wide body aircraft for the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation.

On Friday, Minister Adhikari had expressed a commitment that he would submit all documents related to the deal to the International Relations Committee of Parliament within 24 hours. However, there is not any report on if he submitted the papers.

Meanwhile, police detained six demonstrators for showing the black flag to the minister. SP Om Rana, Chief of the Kaski District Police Office, says further investigation is underway whereas the students are in police custody.

The detainees have been identified as Netra Chapagain, Resham Sapkota, Bishal Timsina, Narendra Basyal, Krishna Adhikari and Tejendra Kumar Bhatta.
