In a week, 5,502 quake-affected households of eight districts to get house reconstruction grant

In a week from now, 5,502 earthquake-affected households will get first installment of government grant meant for reconstruction of private houses.

Ghanashyam Basti, director at the implementation unit of the House Reconstruction Programme designed for quake victims, told Onlinekhabar that signing of grant agreements has begun from Sunday in eight VDCs of eight districts.

As per existing provisions, the government must provide house reconstruction grant within a week after signing grant agreements, he said.

The deals will be reached with the victims living in one village each in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwkot, Rasuwa, Okhaldhunga, Sindhuli, Ramechhap and Makwanpur.

Teams comprising technicians from the National Reconstruction Authority and experts had reached affected villages earlier for data collection. They had completed preparations after holding discussions with political parties and local administration.

Basti said they have signed grant agreements for the construction of 1,178 private houses in Sindhuli, 970 in Raviopi of Kavre, 408 in Kharanitar of Nuwakot, 759 in Okhrang of Ramechhap, 47 in Rumjatar of Okhaldhunga, 193 in Birdi of Rasuwa, 1,003 in Marpak of Dhading and 944 in Hamsapur of Gorkha.

A month ago, NRA had started collecting data on quake damage from Ladruk and Lamabagar villages of Dolakha. As per the survey, 5,313 households based there are eligible for housing grants.
