Kathmandu, January 26

There are early indications that chaos may reign supreme at Tuesday’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament, scheduled for 3 pm, if it takes place at all.

Three major parties have already issued a whip to their lawmakers to be present at the meeting and cast their votes on constitution amendment.

But lawmakers are facing a difficult question: Which amendment proposal to vote for? Even leaders of the ruling parties seem confused on this.

Given the situation, they may be able to decide which proposal to vote for at the penultimate hour.

If major political parties fail to reach an understanding regarding their support for a particular proposal, Tuesday’s House meeting is likely to be postponed.

Leaders from the ruling parties maintain that the government, by taking the ownership of several amendment bills, is trying to address demands of Madhesh-centric parties, though talks held with them in this regard have failed.

“We (ruling parties) will continue our talks right before the meeting. At that meeting, we will decide which bill to put forward, UCPN-Maoist leader and Minister for Education Giri Raj Mani Pokharel told Onlinekhabar. .
