Nepal PM calls meeting of ruling coalition, civic polls, Charter on agenda

Kathmandu, March 1

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called a meeting of ruling coalition partners. PM has invited Nepali Congress, RPP, MJF (Democratic) and United Democratic Madheshi Front at the meeting that will take place at Baluwatar at 4 pm, his secretariat informed, describing local level elections and Constitution amendment as agendas.

In his latest proposal, PM Prachanda has proposed amending the Constitution after local level polls. He plans to bring another Bill on increasing the number of local levels and deprive through Electoral Council of the Upper House the voting rights of chiefs and deputy chiefs of local levels. But UDMF is form on its stance — that it will not take part in elections without Constitution amendment.
