Secretariat member of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Ram Bahadur Thapa, says the party will finalise formations of its lower committees and sister organisations by merging existing structures of erstwhile CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre within next two weeks.

Thapa also heads a nine-member task force that the party has formed to finalise the modality of unification. Media reports have said the task force has been unable to hold regular meetings due to the busy schedule of its members.

But, speaking with his party’s cadres in Birgunj of Parsa district on Friday morning, Thapa said, “We know that there are problems in the unification process in some districts including Parsa. But, we are hopeful that it will be over by the third week of January.”

Also the Minister for Home Affairs in the incumbent government, Thapa said the government was heading towards socialism. He said the government want all Nepalis working abroad to return home so that they could contribute to the nation building.
