Former governor (province chief) of Sudurpaschim, Mohan Raj Malla, died of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

Malla, a permanent resident of Kailali in the province, was undergoing treatment in Kathmandu after testing positive for the coronavirus around a week ago, Malla’s nephew Rupak informs.

Malla was also suffering from pneumonia and heart problems.

A member of the Rastriya Panchayat, the party-less Panchayat-era legislative, he had joined the Nepali Congress after the reestablishment of the multiparty democracy in 1990.

He was appointed the first governor of the province in January 2018. The KP Sharma Oli-led government, however, had sacked him along with governors of all other provinces, in November 2019

His final rights would be performed on Thursday.
