The Ministry of Energy is establishing a solar plant in Singhadarbar, the country’s central administrative complex comprising the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as well as most ministries, with a target to regularly produce one megawatt energy.
The Chinese government is providing financial and technical support for the project.
Earlier, the Ministry had planned to generate five megawatt energy, but a study conducted by a Chinese government team had concluded that generating more than one megawatt power was not possible in Singhadarbar for now.
Spokesperson at the Ministry of Energy, Dinesh Ghimire, says required equipment have already been brought and power generation begins within next four months.
“This is a pilot project and if it is successful, we will encourage other government offices also to install solar plants.”
The power produced from new plant will not be sufficient to illuminate the complex. However, on weekends and other holidays, the government plans to supply produced power to the grid of Nepal Electricity Authority.
