Lalbabu Pandit fines Soaltee, Dwarika’s for flouting environment protection rule

Kathmandu, February 25

The government has decided to fine some big hotels of the capital Rs 100,000 each for providing services without conducting the environmental impact assessment.

New Environment Minister Lalbabu Pandit has hinted that he will become quite strict in implementation of set standards for mitigating environmental hazards.

The hotels booked for the offence include Ravibhawan-based five-star Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza and Battisputali-based Dwarika’s Hotel.

Likewise, Thamel-based Kathmandu Guest House and Ravibhawan-based City Hotel have also been fined.

Meanwhile, Minister Pandit wrote to the Ministry of Health to take action against four hospitals of Kathmandu Valley claiming they are providing services without meeting standards.

Those recommended for the action include National Hospital in Kalanki, International Friendship Children’s Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu Model Hospital in Pradarshanimarga and Kathmandu Hospital of Tripureshwor.

 

The action has been recommended as per provisions of the Environment Protection Act and the Environment Protection Regulations, according to the Ministry.
