Janakpurdham, November 1

A 10-year-old girl in Parsa rural municipality of Sarlahi district has survived an attempted murder for resisting rape, claims the family.

Mukesh Mukhiya, 27, from Sitamarhi of India, had tried to rape the child while she was cutting grass in her field on Friday afternoon, the family says. However, the girl cried for help, but the man attacked the alleged victim with her sickle. At the time, another man came on a motorcycle and saved the child, says ward chair Umesh Yadav.

“The Indian man came on a motorbike and asked the child about family details,” Yadav narrates the incident as reported to him, “Then, he covered her mouth and tried to rape her.”

The alleged victim’s parents were in the district headquarters, Malangawa, that day to get the rabies vaccine, it has been learned.

The attacker was under the influence of alcohol, and it is not known how he crossed the border and entered Nepal, says Yadav.

The locals have nabbed the suspect and submitted him to the police for further action.

Police are investigating into the case, according to District Police Office Spokesperson Madan Kunwar.
