Province 5 to get new name after at least six months

The Province 5 Assembly on Thursday extended the term of a panel formed to recommend the name and capital for the province by six months. It is the third time that the term is extended.

The panel’s team had expired last Sunday.

With the recent extension, it has been certain that the province will gets its new name and a permanent capital within next few months.

Provincial Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti informed the Assembly meeting today that the term was extended as requested. The panel’s chairman Dipendra Pun Magar says the committee will now consult experts of geography, weather and climate, environment, culture and security sectors before reaching the conclusion.

The committee has already collected public opinion. It has been learned that most members of the public suggested that the province be named Lumbini. There are some suggestions for Buddhabhumi, Swargadwari, Magarat and Tharuhat also.

The opinion about the capital is also divided.
