Province 2 govt to announce lockdown relief packages for the needy

The Province 2 government is preparing to announce special packages for the needy including the underprivileged, farmers, and workers, who have been deprived of work during the lockdown announced to control the spread of the coronavirus.

The government hosted an all-party meeting on Sunday morning to discuss the issue and the parties agreed to announce such packages during the meeting, according to Shailendra Sah, the Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperative.

The provincial government will provide funds to the local governments and they will implement the programme. The government will finalise a working procedure for its implementation by Monday.

A metropolitan city in the province will get Rs 2.5 million, a sub-metropolitan city Rs 2 million, a municipality Rs 1.5 million and a rural municipality Rs 1 million.

“The money should be spent on meeting the needs of those who struggle for hand-to-fouth existence during the lockdown, according to him.
