Province 1 to get name and permanent capital in next 10 days

Province 1

Biratnagar, April 26

Province 1 of Nepal will get its new official name and a permanent capital within next 10 days, according to officials.

The constitution authorises the Provincial Assembly to finalise the name and the capital. The Assembly’s current session is scheduled to end on May 5, and its members are determined to complete the naming of province and capital by then, according to a leader.

The leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party, which has sufficient seats in the Assembly to endorse the proposal about name and capital, informs his party has already decided to finalise the issue by May 5.

“The parliamentary party will hold its meeting soon. Based on its decision, the government will register a proposal in the Assembly,” says NCP provincial parliamentary party leader and Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai.

Leaders of the party, however, are seen largely divided over the issue.
