Post-mortem confirms rape and killing of teenage girl in Surkhet

Police investigators have confirmed that Inisa BK, a 16-year-old girl residing in Birendranagar-1, was raped and murdered following the release of a post-mortem report and a series of suspect confessions.

The victim, originally from Gurbhakot-6, Badakholi, was discovered dead on the morning of March 6 in the Janajagaran Community Forest near Shahid Park.

Details of the investigation

Local authorities shifted their focus to a criminal homicide investigation after the victim’s relatives filed a complaint with the Surkhet District Police Office, alleging gang rape. Mohan Jung Budha Thapa, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the district office, confirmed that four suspects, all under the age of 18, have been taken into custody.

On March 6, a 16-year-old boy was detained on the afternoon the body was discovered, and on March 7, three additional suspects were taken into custody to assist with further inquiries.

According to police claims, the 16-year-old primary suspect and the victim had been in a relationship for two years. Investigators believe the pair had pre-arranged a meeting to visit Shahid Park on the morning of the incident, eventually moving into the nearby forest.

Medical findings and cause of death

The post-mortem report, finalised on Wednesday by a team of three physicians from Karnali Provincial Hospital and forensic specialist Arbin Shakya from Bheri Hospital, paints a harrowing picture of the assault.

The medical examiners concluded that the victim suffered catastrophic internal injuries. Shakya noted that the violence of the assault resulted in severe tearing of the reproductive organs, extending to the uterus.

“The post-mortem report indicates that death was caused by excessive hemorrhaging following the rupture of sensitive internal organs,” Shakya states.

He added that visible trauma and bruising were identified as far as the uterine wall, confirming the extreme nature of the physical trauma.

The four suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues under juvenile justice protocols.
