Surkhet, March 10
Four people have been arrested on charges of raping and murdering 16‑year‑old Inisha BK in Birendranagar, Surkhet. All four suspects are minors under the age of 18.
Inisha, whose permanent residence was in Badakholi, Gurbhakot Municipality‑6, East Surkhet, and who was living in Birendranagar‑1 at the time, died on Falgun 23. She was found unconscious in the Janajagaran Community Forest, Birendranagar‑4, on the morning of that day and was taken to the Provincial Hospital in Kalagaun, where doctors pronounced her dead. She was a Grade 11 student.
The deceased’s relatives filed a complaint with the District Police Office, Surkhet, on Falgun 24, alleging that she had been gang‑raped and murdered, said DSP Mohan Jung Budhapa, spokesperson for the District Police Office.
According to DSP Thapa, Surkhet police arrested a 16‑year‑old teenager on the afternoon of Falgun 23 and subsequently took three additional individuals into custody on Falgun 24 for further investigation.
Suspicion of murder after rape
Like every day, Inisha left her house at 6 am on Falgun 23, saying she was going to attend tuition. She was a Grade 11 student at Usha Balbatika School in Birendranagar‑6. Her mother called her daughter, expecting her back by 8 am; when she had not returned by 9 am, the phone was switched off.
“After some time, I received a call saying my daughter was unconscious in the forest of Shahid Park and that I had to come quickly,” said Inisha’s mother. When she arrived at Shahid Park, which adjoins the Janajagaran Community Forest, she found Inisha unconscious, her body covered in blood. The mother fainted at the sight. Bystanders who arrived at the scene took Inisha to the Provincial Hospital in Kalagaun, but the doctor declared her dead on arrival.
The family has filed a complaint of culpable homicide and rape, alleging that she died after being gang‑raped. “The girl’s body was covered in bruises, her hair was torn, her bangles were broken, and she had been dragged two to three metres,” the mother said. “They tortured her to death. Strict action must be taken against the culprits.”
DSP Thapa of the District Police Office, Surkhet, said the investigation is being taken seriously, and a conclusion will be reached after the post‑mortem report is completed.
