Kathmandu, August 24

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Wednesday directed Home Secretary Narayan Gopal Malego and Nepal Police IG Upendra Kant Aryal to investigate suspected killing of Ajit Mijar, a Dalit youth from Pachkhal, Kavre district, by forming a committee and bring the guilty within the ambit of law.

PM Prachanda issued the directive to the two at his office after a meeting with Dalit leaders. During the meeting, the leaders had drawn the attention of the PM towards what they called the ‘murder’ of Mijar.

PM told the two: Dalit leaders have submitted a memorandum, pointing at the suspected death of a Dalit youth in Panchkhal of Kavre. Find out the facts by forming a committee under Home Ministry joint-secretary and initiate action.

Home Secretary Malego and IG Aryal pledged to form a probe committee immediately as per PM’s directive, PM’s Secretariat informed.

Dalit leaders expressed happiness, pointing that PM Prachanda had directed Home Secretary and Nepal Police IG to investigate the case just an hour after they had handed over a memorandum.

About a month ago, Mijar had tied the knot with a woman from a different cast. Two days later, the woman’s kin had intervened and ‘broken off’ the intercaste marriage. Four days after the marriage, the Dalit youth was found buried in Gajuri, Dhading district.
