PHSC meeting falls short of quorum, postponed till Tuesday

A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

Kathmandu, February 24

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee could not hold its meeting scheduled for Sunday afternoon as it fell short of the quorum to convene the meeting.

Now, the meeting has been called for 2 pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Committee had scheduled to conduct hearing on the names of those nominated to lead Tharu Commission and Madheshi Commission today.

Bishnu Prasad Chaudhary and Bijaya Kumar Datta, proposed for chairmanship of the commissions, were summoned to the meeting.

Recently, the Constitutional Council had recommended five persons to lead five constitutional bodies. Of them, the hearing of Balananda Paudel recommended for National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission and Shanta Raj Subedi recommended for National Inclusive Commission has already been over. The PHSC, however, has not given any formal decision about their endorsement.

The nomination of Samim Miya Ansari, nominated for the Muslim Commission, has been dragged into controversy over his disputed date of birth, fake citizenship and affiliation with the ruling party.
