Kathmandu, March 30

The Pokhara High Court has told the Tanahun District Court to tell it on what evidence it decided to send rape-accused actor Paul Shah to judicial custody until the final verdict on the case.

Hearing Shah’s appeal for the release on Wednesday, a single bench of Judge Ramesh Prasad Rajbhandari decided to summon the lower court to submit the files related to the case, informs Information Officer Bishnu Prasad Acharya.

“This is just a preliminary hearing,” Acharya says, “Now, a full hearing will be scheduled later to decide whether to release him.”

Earlier last week, the Tanahun District Court had ordered the police to keep Shah in custody until the final verdict on the case although it had released his manager Krishna Joshi on a Rs 100,000 bail.

But, Paul Shah filed an appeal at the high court on Tuesday, claiming the district court’s order was faulty.

Meanwhile, the Nawalpur District Court in the same province is also hearing a similar case. The court is yet to decide whether to keep Paul Shah in custody or release him.
