Parliament returns controversial badges to producer, to redo it again

The newly launched badge for the federal parliament members

Kathmandu, August 19

After stakeholders, the public, and the lawmakers also criticised new badges made for lawmakers saying it was more kitschy than artistic, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has returned the badges to the producer, Domestic and Cottage Industry Office under the Bagmati provincial government.

The office has also been told to produce the new badges again and submit to the secretariat.

Following the controversy, House of Representatives Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota had called a meeting of the secretariat and office officials to convince the office to make the badges. Ganesh Raut, an official of the Cottage Industry Office, says the secretariat will not be charged additional money for the new set of badges.

The secretariat had spent nearly Rs 2 million for the badges.
