Pant murder probe: Home Minister says govt committed to bringing culprit to book

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa

Kathmandu, February 6

Once again, Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has said the government is committed to bringing the culprit of rape and murder of Nirmala Pant to book.

Pant, 13, was found murdered in Kanchanpur district of farwestern Nepal in July last year.

Responding to lawmakers’ queries in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, the Home Minister said the government was still investigating into the case.

“The government cannot leave any criminal unpunished,” he said, “The government has been successful to bring 95 per cent of the criminals to book. Wherever the culprits are, the government will book them.”

During the session, lawmakers of the main opposition Nepali Congress had asked questions about the government’s inability to conclude the probe.

Lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, however, had said the issue turned into a political issue for the opposition party, media and human rights activists.
