Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has announced that the investigation into the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant from Kanchanpur is approaching its conclusion.

During a program organised at the ministry on Sunday, Lamichhane claimed that significant progress had been made in the case during his tenure.

“Even though I didn’t want to mention it, I have to say that we are very close to concluding the matter of Nirmala Pant. I have been asked repeatedly, but I never said anything,” Lamichhane stated. “I thought we should announce it once the results are out. Security agencies know how close we have come. I don’t need the credit. Let all the credit go to the Nepal Police.”

Lamichhane praised the efforts and capabilities of the Nepal Police, emphasising their pivotal role in the investigation.

In addition, Lamichhane mentioned ongoing communication with Interpol regarding the arrest of GB Rai, chairman of Galaxy TV. “I have talked to the Malaysian Home Minister twice. I am ready to inform about the discussions with the Malaysian Home Minister at any time,” Lamichhane added.

He noted that although they could not arrest Rai during his tenure, efforts were being made at the Prime Minister’s level when the government was about to change.
