No way RJPN will join government, clarifies new coordinator

Kathmandu, January 22

Newly appointed coordinator of the presidium of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Mahendra Raya Yadav, has clarified that his party will not join the federal government anytime soon.

The chief of Madhesh-centric party says the party’s path to the government has been blocked now as many cadres of the party arrested during various rights movements are still behind bars.

“Many of the injured are left in lurch. With what moral basis can we join the government?” he tells Onlinekhabar in an interview.

He claims the government has made some unpopular moves, and the party does not want to be a part of it.

Meanwhile, Yadav views that some issues related to the constitution amendment, an old demand of the party, can be addressed in formulations of various related laws.

Likewise, he appreciates the government move of letting its murder accused lawmaker Resham Chaudhary his oath of office and secrecy.

“But, there are many friends in prison just because they participated in our movements,” he demands, “The government should clarify its position about them.”

The leader, however, has hinted that the party will continue extending its support to the government notwithstanding the government’s inability to meet the demands.

“The issue of whether we join the government or whether we withdraw the support is not important. It does not matter even if we do not join the government or withdraw the support.”
