No horn rule to get expanded outside Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 5

Evaluating that the no horn rule introduced in Kathmandu was effective, traffic police are planning to implement the provision in other places as well gradually.

Since the introduction of the rule on April 14, police have taken action against around 3,000 motorists for using horns unnecessarily. Those using horns in necessary situations, however, have been spared.

The spokesperson at the Department of Transport Management, Tokraj Pandey, informs that the rule now will be implemented in other urban areas outside the Kathmandu Valley and major highways in the next phase.

The Department is coordinating with local traffic police units to implement the rule, he adds.

Meanwhile, police are planning to introduce stricter rules on road crossing in Kathmandu Valley. Accordingly, those crossing roads from other points except zebra crossings would be fined from May 15.
