Sitting arrangements have been changed in Parliament building to avoid the risk of coronavirus infection, for the upcoming budget session, beginning Friday, May 8, 2020.

Kathmandu, May 8

The new session of the Federal Parliament is beginning on Friday afternoon.

As per a recommendation from the cabinet, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday had summoned the session to begin today.

Both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly will convene meetings together at 4 pm today.

During this session also known as the budget session, the government will table and endorse its annual policy and programme, and budget statement.

Owing to the threat of the coronavirus outbreak, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has adopted additional preventive measures. Sitting arrangements in the meeting halls have been rearranged so as to maintain a distance whereas the chairs, microphones and other equipment are frequently sanitised.

The secretariat has decided to bar anyone from entering the meeting hall without obtaining a coronavirus negative test report. The lawmakers, secretariat staff and journalists had undergone the test yesterday. Their report is yet to come out.
