President ends monsoon session of the parliament

Kathmandu, August 16

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has ended the monsoon session of the parliament, on Monday, upon the request of the ruling government.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers had decided to recommend President Bhandari to end the session on Monday at midnight.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Monday, speaker Agni Sapkota read out a statement from the President where she called for the end of the monsoon session.

The first meeting of the reinstated House of Representatives took place on July 18.

However, Nepal Communist Party-UML leader and member of the HoR Mahesh Basnet has accused the ruling party of ending the session to bring an ordinance and divide his party.

“I heard that Nepali Congress wants to end the monsoon session and bring an ordinance. If this is true then it will be a dark day in the history of Nepal’s parliament,” he said.

He further questioned the intention of ending the session stating that no work had been done since the house was reinstated by the Supreme Court.
