The government has decided to begin the next session of the Federal Parliament this Friday, May 8.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar decided to recommend the date for the beginning of the session. As per the constitution, the president announces the beginning and end of parliamentary sessions upon recommendation from the government.

During this session, the government will table its annual plan and programme, budget plan and other related policies for the next fiscal year 2020/21 that will begin mid-July.

Whereas the session would begin quite early in the past years, it is yet to start this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown imposed across the country.

Last week, the prime minister and the speaker had held a meeting to discuss how the session could be held by maintaining social distance required to avoid the infection.
