New minister’s entry delays Gopal Bahadur Khadka’s transfer

NOC Executive Director Gopal Bahadur Khadka

Kathmandu, October 27

The Ministry of Supplies has failed to transfer Nepal Oil Corporation Executive Director Gopal Bahadur Khadka to the Ministry even days have passed since it decided so and the Election Commission also approved the transfer as something which would not violate the code of conduct.

Earlier, the government had removed Khadka from office after media reports and investigations carried out by parliamentary committees found that he was involved in irregularities while purchasing land for building petroleum storage facilities in various parts of the country.

But, Khadka moved the court against the decision and got reinstated.

Then, as a form of action, the Ministry had decided to transfer him to the Ministry.

It has been learned that the new Supplies Minister Jayanta Chand is reluctant to implement the decision made by his predecessor Shiva Kumar Mandal.

Chand is a leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party which was brought to the Cabinet after the CPN-Maoist Centre decided to join the leftist alliance. Then, Maoist leader Mandal was relieved of his portfolio as Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba reshuffled Cabinet last week.
