Kathmandu, March 2
Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala formally announced her candidature for the position of party President on Wednesday, and said she will not withdraw her candidacy.
She made this announcement by organising a press conference at her residence in Mandikhatar in the afternoon.
The NC leader said she has fielded her candidature in defence of the political lines of BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala. Conspiracies are afoot within the NC against BP and Girija’s political lines, she said. Sujata did not announce her team at the programme, though.
As of now, four leaders are vying for NC presidency. They are Sujata, Acting President of the party Ramchandra Poudel and NC leader Krishna Sitaula (establishment faction) and senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba. While Poudel and Sitaula are preparing to announce their candidatures on Wednesday itself, Deuba and his panel will annnounce candidatures on Thursday.
