Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has prevented party leader Sujata Koirala from selling her private land.

Koirala had tried to sell the land for treatment of breast cancer but Deuba prevented her from doing so. Deuba pointed that the state has been funding the treatment of VIPs and it should chip in for Koirala too.

Subsequently, Koirala has put on hold her plan to sell off her land for her treatment, with Deuba assuring to manage funds by taking up the matter with Prime Minister Prachanda.

This comes amid rumours that Koirala is seeking Rs 10 million from the government for her treatment.

A source close to Koirala told Onlinekhabar that she was thinking of arranging funds by selling her land. “If the government provides for her treatment, it’s well and good.

The source claimed Sujata herself had not sought funds for her treatment, adding that she gave her nod after NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi promised to take initiatives for arranging funds for her treatment.

Meanwhile, Koirala has stopped seeing guests from Monday evening. This, after she got a report from Tata Memorial Hospital and doctors cautioned her that contacts with people will cause infection.

As a result, some Congress leaders, who had come to her Mandikhatar residence on Monday morning, returned home without being able to meet her. Koirala had undergone surgery as part of cancer therapy in Malaysia. Three days later, she plans to visit Singapore for further treatment.
