Morang, June 8

At a time when her own party, Nepali Congress, is standing against the KP Sharma Oli government, NC leader Sujata Koirala has said it will be unfortunate for the country if political parties engage in conspiracies to topple the government.

Koirala said this while talking to journalists at Biratnagar on Tuesday, calling parties to let this government complete its full term.

She said plots intended to topple the government will bring misfortune to the country and the people. Such plots will only increase political instability and hinder national development, Koirala argued.

All political parties should join hands now for economic development, Koirala said, adding: Other countries have made strides in development because governments get to complete their tenures there.

She argued that the Nepali Congress should continue to play its role as the main opposition, a strong one at that. The parliamentary system requires a strong opposition, Koirala said, adding: The Congress will play that role.

Economic development has not been possible in Nepal for want of a stable government, Koirala remarked.

She said the current government has failed to control corruption, inflation, black marketing and expedite post-quake reconstruction work. The opposition parties should take government’s weaknesses to the people, instead of seeking to topple it, the NC leader said.
