Kathmandu, November 19

Nearly 450 children from various schools of Lalitpur on Saturday ran with some schoolkids who have come to Nepal from the United Kingdom in a bid to establish a fund for the reconstruction of school buildings collapsed in the 2015 earthquake.

The ‘Run for My School’ campaign was organised on the occasion of International Child Rights Day, which the world will celebrate on Monday.

The organisers say the Saturday event was the second edition of annual campaign.

Global Action Nepal and GAN Research and Learning Resource Centre had organised the event.

The organisers say they have been engaging local communities to reconstruct the schools.

“But over time, they have become dependent on donors’ funding. Raising money themselves has helped revive a sense of ownership of the schools amongst the local community.”
