Nepal will be removed from EU aviation safety list within 3 months: Minister Adhikari

Rabindra Adhikari speaks at a meeting of House of Representatives

Kathmandu, June 22

Nepal will be removed from the European Aviation Safety Agency’s aviation safety list within next three months, claims the country’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari.

All Nepali airlines have been barred from flying in the European sky owing to their weak safety standards since 2013. Nepal has been repeatedly requesting the EU to remove it from the list with assurances of improvement. But, the regional body has continued listing Nepal in the black list apparently due to political interference in Nepal’s civil aviation regulatory body–Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

But, speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives today, Minister Adhikari said Nepal’s current security standard met the EU requirement, hence it would be removed from the list within next three months.

Nepal would send a team to the European Aviation Safety Agency in September and the list would be updated then, he claimed.
