Kathmandu, June 10

It has been quite some time since important political figures from India and China visited Nepal. But our political figures are not lagging behind when it comes to such visits.

Keeping up with this practice, Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun left for China on a weeklong visit at 11 am on Friday, heading a 11-member team comprising his wife Hastamali, Rajendra Kishore Chhetri, secretary at the Vice-president’s Office and personal secretary Suk Bahadur Roka, among others.

Vice-president Pun will attend the fourth China South Asia Festival, 24th Kunming Import Export Trade Fair and China South Asia Entrepreneurs’ Forum. This is Pun’s first foreign visit in the capacity of Vice-president.

He is returning home on June 16, 2016.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa left for India on Friday. This is Thapa’s fifth India visit in the capacity of Foreign Minister.

He is visiting India in the capacity of chair of the SAARC Council of Ministers to attend the convocation of the South Asian University.

While in New Delhi, as usual, Thapa will meet political figures.

On October 18, 2015, Thapa had left for India on a formal visit. About one and a half months later, he had visited New Delhi and Bangalore in course of attending a spiritual programme of spiritual guru Ravi Shankar. During this visit, Nepal and India had reached a four-point understanding on resolution of the Madhesh crisis.

Thapa was also part of a team accompanying Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on his India visit in February. A month later, Thapa again visited New Delhi to attend Ravi Shankar’s programme.
