Nepal PM’s offer to join hands for post-quake reconstruction fails to impress Federal Alliance partner

Rajendra-Mahato
Kathmandu, May 16
These days, the Federal Alliance is encircling Singhadurbar, the government secretariat, calling for the fulfillment of its 26 demands. But Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli does not seem to be heeding the call.

Rather, he requested the alliance to join hands with the government for post-quake reconstruction work by leaving the movement.
He made this call at a programme organised to mark the 23rd Madan-Asrit memorial day at Balkhu. Oli said this to the alliance: The CPN-UML is mobilising volunteers for reconstruction work. Do join us, if you have time. Let’s work together.

And Onlinekhabar took this message to the alliance. In response, Rajendra Mahato, chair of Sadbhavana Party, a partner in the alliance, said: We do not need to quit the movement to engage in the reconstruction campaign. This call is Prime Minister’s plot to thwart the movement.

Mahato said they are more sensitive towards post-quake reconstruction work than the government. Rehabilitation of quake victims is one of our demands, he said, adding: The government has done nothing for them so far.

Mahato said: Twenty-four hours into the quake (April 25, 2015 quake), we visited several affected places and distributed relief.
Asked if they plan to mobilise their young activists in the post-quake reconstruction campaign, Mahato said: We do not have an immediate plan, but our youths are ready to contribute to the campaign.
